Back in the day when ultraportable laptops were seductively thin and outrageously priced, Toshiba had the Portégé R200 ($2,099 list, )—the lightest 12-inch ultraportable in its class. Since then, there have been some minor tweaks, a component swap here and there, but nothing nearly as dramatic as Toshiba's latest creation. The Toshiba Portégé R705-P25 ($800 street) is still one of lightest ultraportables with optical drives in its class, only now it has a 13-inch widescreen, a redesigned keyboard, and built-in technology that makes the original R200 look like a fossil. Oh, and the $2,000 you paid for the R200 is now $800 at your local Best Buy.
